Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week officially started last night with the Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection Fashion show at Lincoln Center. Celebrity burlesquer Dita Von Teese walked in the show, which served to raise awareness for heart disease in women. There was a Heart Truth kiosk in the main lobby, where attendees could pick up Red Dress pins. Dita was also spotted at the Kim Crawford Wine Bar.
Offsite, Number:Lab launched their collection at in the Highline Room at the Standard Hotel. Outside of the hotel, hockey players skated in a small ice rink in front of the hotels's main entrance. The presentation was strong on ski/skatewear that could double as casual clothing for the rugged NY urban male. Think weekends hiking in Central Park.
Two rows of male models were ready for inspection, holding ski equipment from Rossignol as editors, scenesters, and well-wishers swirled around them. The colors were muted earthy grey, with flashes of chartreuse, eggplant, and blue. Number:Lab was founded in 2007 by Louis Fernandez and Greg Lawrance. They are based in New York.
One of the many opening night parties was the Bubble+Cube:A View of London fashion reception. Beautiful photographs by blogger Shini Park of www.parkandcube.com were on view in the Living Room space at the W Hotel's Times Square location. Susie Bubble, of www.stylebubble.com fame, acted as hostess.
Today's shows include Richard Chai, Irina Shabayeva, Tadashi Shoji, and a live streaming event of Christian Siriano's collection sponsored by Fiji water. You can log on to watch it at www.fijiwater.com/christiansiriano.
