New York Fashion Week 2014: Desigual brightens up the drab runways

New York Fashion Week kicked off on Thursday, Feb. 6 in New York. Spain’s Desigual collection was bright and bold, according to a Feb. 6 report by Reuters. It was a nice departure from the dark and monochromatic looks.

Desigual sent their models down the runway in fun and cheerful mini-dresses, short skirts and swing coats. The designs were filled with loud colors and prints.

The couture collection included lots of gold, bronze and sequins.

Even the models were as cheerful as the clothing. They playfully walked down the catwalk as they spun and blew kisses at the camera. This was a nice break from seeing sullen models with stony faces and confused gazes.

The Spanish brand is all about love and individuality. The collection reflects the hometown of Barcelona and the city’s “enduring optimism.”

Hundreds of designers are expected to show their collections for fall 2014 on the runways and showrooms across New York. The event is expected to last through next Thursday. The week will end with Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein.
