A seven-months pregnant woman released photos online on Monday, July 28, 2014, that show a New York Police Department officer putting her in a chokehold. The NY Post reported that this situation happened after officers accused 27-year-old Rosan Miller and her family of illegally grilling on a city sidewalk.
All of the photos were captured by a cell phone during the incident, and they are quite convincing. The pictures appear to show a New York police officer behind Miller and his arm around her neck as he tries to place her under arrest.
The Inqusitr reported that the situation happened around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evening when police showed up at a home on Bradford Street in East New York. Moses Miller, Rosan's husband, was seen grilling on a public sidewalk.
As the police approached the man, they asked him to bring his grill to the back yard and continue the cookout off the public sidewalk.
Moses Miller refused to show the police his ID and he began to walk away from the officers. The cops then attempted to grab him and subdue him to put him under arrest, but that's when it got really ugly between all of those involved.
At this point, Rosan and John Miller, the pregnant woman's brother, intervened and started hitting and slapping the police. They were attempting to stop the cops from arresting Rosan's husband, Moses.
A bystander had his cell phone camera rolling video and it showed Rosan Miller, at seven-months pregnant, resisting arrest and not allowing an officer to cuff him. As the woman's seven-year-old child watched, the officer put his arm around her neck to try and subdue her.
“She was grilling in front of her home, not committing any crime,” former city councilman Charles Barron said at a press conference Monday, where he claimed at least one of the cops called Miller’s husband the N-word.
“I don’t care what anyone says, there is a powder keg in this town” the fiery ex-pol said, suggesting those “harassed” by police may begin to react violently. “ Don’t blame me, the social forecaster, when there is an explosion in this town,”
No-one was said to have been injured in the incident, and Rosan Miller was given a summons for disorderly conduct. Her brother John was charged with harassment and obstruction of justice.
The Internal Affairs Bureau of the NYPD is investigating the incident as chokeholds are suspects are not allowed to be used by cops.
