While Meb Keflezighi won the New York City marathon on Sunday in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 15 seconds, celebrities such as Anthony Edwards, Edward Norton, and Matthew Reeve ran for charities near and dear to their hearts.

Anthony Edwards former star on ER ran the 26.2 mile New York City marathon for “Shoe4Africa” to raise funds to build a children’s hospital in Kenya, Africa. In a recent interview before the race with CBS news Edwards stated, “We’re raising money to build the first public children’s hospital in Kenya. It will be the largest children’s hospital in Africa.” “Finishing is always the expectation I put on myself.”

While Edward Norton, 40, ran the marathon for Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust finishing the New York City marathon in a remarkable 3 hours and 48 minutes with Anthony Edwards, 47, not far behind.

Son of the late Christopher Reeve and Dana Reeve, Matthew Reeve ran in this years New York City marathon for number ‘Team Reeve 1275’ representing the 1,275,000 people living with a spinal cord injury in America. Mathew’s goal was to raise awareness about the prevalence of spinal-cord injuries, and to raise up to $500,000 for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

Matthew Reeve posted the following statement on the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation website shortly after completing the New York City marathon, “Thank you so much for supporting my participation in the 2009 ING New York City Marathon in support of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Your contribution is sincerely appreciated, and will go toward funding the most innovative research to finding a cure for spinal cord injury, as well as helping to improve the lives of the millions of people living with paralysis.
