The TripAdvisor Traveler's Choice website, which combines data from customer reviews and ratings over the past year to create the list of top travel destinations in the United States, has once again ranked New York City as the number one travel destination. With so much to do, see, and eat in a short period of time thanks to one of the biggest subway systems in the world, it is no surprise.
The subways go all over the boroughs of Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. Staten Island has a ferry and its own service once on the island. Visitors to Long Island can take the Long Island railroad. Even if one was super adventurous, he could venture over the Hudson River into New Jersey by the PATH train or a New Jersey transit bus or train. However, New Jersey is very much a car state once off the train, so travel at one's own risk. But just the fact that the overall transportation system is there speaks wonders to what can be accomplished in New York City and beyond.
New York is famous for the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, the Empire State Building, and Central Park. But in fact, New York is home to several other parks. Let's not forget Bryant Park in Manhattan, Prospect Park in Brooklyn, and Fort Tryon Park in upper Manhattan. New York has some of the best museums in the world on Museum Mile, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Jewish History Museum, and many other cultural museums.
Where does one begin to describe the best places to eat in New York City? It may be impossible so one should spend all the time admiring how diverse the cuisine of New York truly is. From expensive three hundred dollar hamburgers to cheap dollar hot dogs, New York caters to every budget. There are many international restaurants, which basically represent every culture that has and does inhabit New York City. Every region of the world has a restaurant here, from Afghanistan to the countries of West Africa.
To come to New York is to enter the opening of the entire world, past and present. That statement alone makes New York deserving of the number one place to visit in the United States.
