In its annual report on half marathons, Running USA found that several New York City half marathons consistently rank fastest in the nation by posting the fastest median times among all half marathons.

The New York Road Runners Staten Island Half Marathon is ranked second fastest in the country by median time, averaging 1:57:27 in 2012. The race also posted the third highest percentage of men in the race, with 56 percent of participants being male.
The New York City Half Marathon was the fourth fastest by median time, with an average of 1:59:15. It beat out the New York Road Runners Brooklyn Marathon by just one second -- which posted the fifth fastest by median time with 1:59:16.
The New York City Half Marathon was reported as the country's 12th biggest half marathon with 15,344 finishers and the Brooklyn Half Marathon ranked 17th with 14,197. America's largest half marathon was the One America Festival in Indiana with 31,170 finishers.
The world's largest half marathon was held in Sweden. The Goteborg race posted a world record with its 44,094 finishers in 2012. The One America Festival ranked third largest in the world.
The study also found that the half marathon continues to be America's favorite distance, evident in a record 1.85 million people finishing in half marathons across the country. This is about 15 percent more than the number of people in 2011.
Additionally, Running USA's 2013 Runner Survey found that 43 percent of women and 38 percent of men said its their favorite distance.
