On Thursday, January 30th local Architects held their annual fundraiser to benefit the Mayor's Alliance for NYC animals. This program allows shelters like the one seen in the photo, to be built for feral NYC cats. These structures are a great way to allow cats who wish to remain in the wild, do so while helping them along the way.
The Mayors Alliance says:
these imaginatively designed yet practical structures will keep cats safe and warm during the winter months. Following the exhibition, the shelters will be installed in pre-determined outdoor locations throughout New York City where colonies of community cats are cared for by certified caretakers.
Alliance President Jane Hoffman told 1010 WINS:
All of the cats have undergone TNR, Trap, neuter, return, it is the key to keeping down cat intake at Animal Care and Control, so it’s really crucial to our whole mission of reducing euthanasia at our city shelters.
This years participating architects included;
- Bailly & Bailly, Carlton Architecture, Francis Cauffman, deSoto studio Architects, Incorporated, Elham Valipay and Haleh Atabaki of Mish Mish, M Moser Associates, Two One Two Design, and Zimmerman Workshop Architecture + Design, to name a few.
