It’s almost 2014 in Times Square and the party revelers in New York City have been standing in crowds for hours just to see the Times Square ball drop. What do all these folks have in common? Well, people look bundled up, but it is more common to see the special 2014 glasses on everyone's faces. The cameras panning the crowds in Times Square show big blue hats and thousands of people wearing the glasses. According to the New York Daily News on Tuesday night thousands of people have flocked to the area and the streets are jammed for blocks.
Wearing the 2014 glasses has become somewhat of a tradition to highlight the year without actually saying what it is. The glasses, sold at party stores and given away at the event in Times Square really do add an extra element and might even keep your eye warm (depending on how snug the glasses fit.)
There will be plenty of glasses seen on New Year’s Eve With Carson Daly and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. Usually the two shows have reporters who pull out the glasses towards the end of the broadcast or finds a pair to borrow from the crowd.
Take a look at the 2014 glasses the fans loved to wear in the crowds. Don’t they all look so happy!
