New Year’s Eve family fun in York

See also

There will be another family-oriented New Year’s celebration in the area (see other article)- the York New Year's Revolution. Beginning at 6 p.m. and ending at 12:15 a.m. folks will have plenty to do before the dropping of the White Rose at midnight. The dropping of a White Rose is a nod to the War of the Roses between Lancaster and York (Lancaster, PA drops a Red Rose for the same reason). Best of all, all activities are free!

Families with children (and those who can’t stay awake until midnight) will be especially grateful for the Children’s Countdown between 6 and 8 p.m. This event is sponsored by Shipley Energy who is providing free hats and noisemakers. Taking place at Central Market (34 West Philadelphia Street) there will be vendors and bouncy houses.

Over at Continental Square there will be musical entertainment:

· Nakuu: York teen who recently won the NBA Hip Hoops Music Challenge will perform at 8:25

· RPM: Their acronym stands for Russia, Pennsylvania, Memphis and they are known as the Soulful and Funky Party Band. Their set will start at 8:45 p.m.

· Sabrina Duke Band: Enjoy some R&B and soul music beginning following RPM.

· Adam McAllister: The emcee for the evening will return after all musical entertainment to host the dropping of the White Rose followed by a fireworks display. The fireworks are provided by the City of York General Authority.

Parking will be free at the Philadelphia Street and King Street garages. Please note that the Market Street garage will be closed this evening. The evening’s main sponsors are the City of York and Sprint.

Anyone who has donated non-perishable food items to any York Sprint location over the past few weeks is entered into their grand prize drawing on New Year’s Eve at Continental Square. Some lucky person will win a Samsung Galaxy S4 as well as a Samsung Gear Watch. In addition, anyone who donated food before today should have received a button to wear for NYE. Make sure your button is turned on while out at Continental Square and if a Sprint representative sees you, you will win a prize on the spot! For additional information on the festivities, please call (717) 849-2217.
