The New Year's Eve 2013 live stream online viewing guides indicate that tonight viewers will be able to watch the Times Square ball drop and countdown to 2014 as it happens, all live on the internet. Viewers can also tune in to the traditional ways of watching it, include various televised specials. However, the scheduled Times Square live streaming countdown view and ball drop to bring in 2014, is a way for those without access to a TV to watch all the festivities as a Happy New Year arrives.
The IBTimes.com site reported on Dec. 31 that the live streaming online coverage starts at 6 p.m. EST tonight. At that time, there will be the lighting and raising of the Times Square Ball in preparation of the big countdown and ahead of the final moments of 2013 when the ball drops to bring in 2014. This is one of the biggest celebrations to end 2013 and welcome 2014 for those in search of happiness, success and more positivity in the coming years. It also signals the time to begin those diets, workout plans or other New Year's resolutions.
While online viewing is a good option, viewers who want to watch more celebrations on TV will want to check out ABC for the traditional “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” starting at 8 p.m. EST or so. While the legendary Dick Clark is no longer part of the festivities, it still carries his name due to his importance to the annual event. Ryan Seacrest, Jenny McCarthy and others have taken over as hosts in recent years for this major celebration which will feature all sorts of celebrities and musical acts this year, as well as Spider-Man.
Among the performers for the New Year’s Eve 2013 specials this year are Blondie, Icona Pop, Rodney Atkins and many more. Performers will be featured on stage at different times, and in some cases they may be performing from other parts of the world besides in Times Square or New York. In the past, the scene has shifted to areas such as Miami, Los Angeles or Las Vegas to showcase other performers.
At 10 p.m. EST, Spider-Man will be a part of the show to kick off the countdown at that hour, followed by a video message from one of the stars of the upcoming sequel film, Emma Stone. At 10:50 p.m. EST a special clip from “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” movie will air for movie fans to check out. Of course, that follows after a performance by rap group Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who had a highly-successful 2013.
It’s hard to find a more controversial star from 2013 than Miley Cyrus, although some may argue Kanye West is up there. Miley will be performing songs including "Wrecking Ball" in Times Square as early as 11:39 p.m. EST. At 11:52 p.m. EST, Melissa Etheridge takes the stage for the final performance before the big countdown starts as the ball is prepared to lower in Times Square of New York City.
Leading this year’s countdown to 2014 will be U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sontomayor who is from New York. Those who want to see the ball drop can check it out on a variety of channels on cable or satellite include ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and FOX, among others. For the live streaming online coverage head over to the Times Square NYE website, but keep in mind it will likely not include all of the performers from the various specials on TV. However, it could be a great way to watch the ball drop to bring in 2014 on the go.
