The New Year is approaching fast and this is the ripe time to set goals and milestones for you to achieve in the upcoming year. A lot can be accomplished within a year, even if you intend to compete. At Golden Gloves, newly trained boxers usually spend the first 8 months (from January until August) of the year perfecting their stance, defense, and boxing capabilities before competing. September is usually the month when boxers step out of the gym and begin competing. Like with any other sport, boxers start amateur and slowly gain reputation after fights. Even if you lose a fight, it never means you should give up. You have to keep pushing and trying. Remember: a true athlete always gets up and finishes the race after falling down. If you intend to compete, you must have the desire to win even if you lose a fight or two, for you it will only mean good experience.

If you do not wish to compete, it does not mean boxing is not for you. As discussed before, boxing involves you using your whole body. You might be a heavy weights individual, why not impress people with your might at a boxing gym at the end of every week? You have gained strength from other sources than boxing, now you can transfer that might into your knuckles. It all lies in the mind and body. Your mind can concentrate energy and send it through your nerve channels into your knuckles. Now that has been mentioned, play around with the energy pulses your nervous system can stimulate. Try to concentrate on your knuckle and punch the bag, pad, or opponent with that strict precision in combination of energy stimulation. It is important to note that if you are careless with your punches, you may end up losing energy or even worse: injuring your wrist, fingers, or arm.

The purpose of this article is to guide and instruct you of how to become completely part of boxing. You must be flexible and transparent like water. You become part of it and it becomes part of you. It is all about the mentality, the only person that can tell you what is right for you is yourself. And certainly, boxing is for you. Living and breathing boxing does not mean you training all the time, it means you are keeping the mind and principle of boxing anywhere you go. In the end of the day, it is all about energy and your knowledge of how to use it properly. Master the skill of energy concentration and your fighting techniques will become ultimate in the ring. You will later see how you can use your energy in all situations life throws at you, which is a great new technique for you to have to tackle the New Year with a strong ambitious drive that only you will define where it takes you.
