It is pretty crazy that we’re already nearing the end of January, the first month of our New Year. It is a great time to check in with you to see if you’re still working hard to implement your New Year resolution. What is your update?
If your resolution was to lose weight as most are, follow these tips to help keep you on track:
- Make sure your goal is realistic. Target one pound per week. This may seem minimal but in just one year, you can lose over fifty pounds!
- Create a log to help you visualize your goal, own your progress and measure your results. For example, your log should reflect a start date, your current weight and measurements. You should document these numbers, at minimal, once a week. Also, record your exercise regimen; when, what type of workout and how long you exercised. If you really want to understand the big picture scenario, log your food, calories and the time you eat. This may seem tedious but it will help you pinpoint exactly what is sabotaging your efforts. Once you’ve compiled a month of data, you’ll quickly see that perhaps your late night eating or snacking on junk throughout the day is offsetting your efforts. After you realize your shortcoming and step up your commitment, you can alter your data collecting activity.
- Make sure you’re eating when your body is hungry. Most people eat for the wrong reasons, boredom, feeling upset or eating for pleasure. Allow your body to embrace a feeling of hunger before you eat. Hunger as defined by the Encarta dictionary means need to eat. If you make sure you really need to eat because you really are hungry, you will conquer this year’s resolution.
- Plan your meals. It is hard to eat healthy when you do not have any healthy food at home. Create a grocery list, meal specific, and purchase your food with your health in mind. Your list should include fruits, vegetables and nuts.
- Each day, take a few minutes to meditate or pray to empower your mission. This grounding activity will start your day with a positive intention.
Your success, regardless of your resolution, makes for a healthier you. You’re worth your time and effort!
