New Year, New You

While being a diabetic can indeed be a challenge, it is not an insurmountable one. As we move into a new year, there are new challenges, new mountains to climb. Let this year be your best ever!!

How do you do this? Here are a few helpful ideas on how to maintain control of your diabetes, and not allow it to control you.

1) Be aware of your dietary intake. Monitor what you eat, and how much. Keeping a food diary is a great way to keep your diet on track.

2) Since most people have a smartphone of some sort, these phones are equipped with alarms. Use the alarm to remind yourself to eat meals at a regular time, or to take your medication at the same time every day.

3) Connect with your local office of the American Diabetes Association. They possess a wealth of information, as well as support groups. They have publications and information that can be helpful to the new diabetic or those who have had the disease for a while. Whether you are a newbie or an "old-timer", the ADA is able to assist and support you.

Each of us has challenges that we face, and those with diabetes are no exception. Just remember, either you control the disease or the disease controls you. Which one do you prefer? Make this year your best ever!! Your life is calling....what are you waiting for??
