As winter settles in, there is nothing like the warm of a home. Many of Chicago’s area shelter and rescues have dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that would love nothing more than settling into a warm loving home with a forever family.
Here are a few of the animals that need a second chance at a happy life – several had very tough starts in live and a few others just need a new home after losing their family. Please share, post, tweet and pass along your best way possible to help these dogs and cats find a family.
Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control
Thomas is a very lovable, playful, active and friendly one-year-old, male, green-eyed, white and grey-spotted Turkish Van cat looking for a loving guardian. This sweet boy was stressed out being caged at Chicago Animal Care and Control but has really come into his own in foster care. He loves other cats and people and really loves to play with is toys. Bella Blue is a wonderful girl who is coming up on her 3-year anniversary at Heartland. As one of the designated office kitties, she is outgoing, charming and playful and loves attention – but will let you know when she’s had enough. She does well with other cats and small dogs. If the office gets to be too much she’ll go to her favorite hiding spot and she loves to bird watch. She does need to go on a diet and could use a little exercise. Bella Blue is almost six and really could use a home.
Writers note – Bella Blue is one of my favorite cats at Heartland. She lost her last home when an aggressive male cat moved in and needs to go to a home where that won’t be an issue.
Marie Louise is a sweet and gentle senior girl who is ready to retire to a forever home. She loves to be petted, spoken to softly and isn’t shy. However, she does need to go to a home where she’ll be the sole cat because she’s not fond of other kitties. Marie Louise is around 11 and is FIV positive. Despite that, she should live a long healthy life with proper care. Find out more about FIV kitties at Tree House.
Dill was adopted from ARFhouse Chicago in 2008 and then dumped at Animal Control last spring. ARFhouse rescued him for the second time and desperately needs help finding a foster home or forever home for this 3-year-old pittie mix. Because he doesn’t do well with other dogs, he’s been boarded, which has been very costly. He now needs a foster home without another dog, where he could thrive. Or, he needs to find his forever home. This rescue has an affiliation with the ARFhouse sanctuary in Sherman, TX. It’s a wonderful place for dogs that aren’t suited to be in a home, but for a people-loving fellow like Dill it would be heartbreaking to confine him to a run with little human contact. Chicago English Bulldog Rescue
Bear is an English Bulldog with a big personality. He’s 7-years-old but is very active and lovable and acts like a youngster. He was heartworm positive and is recovering from his treatment. During his treatment, he’s had to rest and that’s been quite the trick since Bear loves to run, not walk, whenever he can (he also trots). He’s not been neutered yet while he is recovering and does mark his territory. Bear is working on that and should stop once he’s been neutered. He gets along with other dogs and ignores cats. He’s so ready to go to a home and settle in for good.
Sunny is an 11-year-old husky who really needs a forever home for the rest of his golden years. He was adopted out with his 15-year-old brother to a family in Wisconsin and both came back into the rescue when the owner couldn’t deal with Sunny’s brother dying (Prince died three weeks after being returned). Sunny’s foster mom says he’s wonderful, and gets along with everyone and every dog. He tends to be a bit insecure and will mark until he feels settled, but does well with a bellyband. His foster mom says that although she doesn’t have cats in the house, Sunny seems to be a bit frightened by them and the cat volunteers think he would be fine in a house with cats.
