Hello 2014! We have waited an entire year for you to get here. Now that you are, "Oh Crap! I was not ready for this".
With a new year comes the accepted practice of starting new. In order to do so we must get rid of the old. For some of us that will require being very strong and demand that we get our way. As Nick Lowe put it in 1979, Cruel to be Kind.
After you have thrown out the trash, unpacked the baggage and cleared your head, it is time to focus on those new choices:
- 1. Decide what your priorities are
- 2. What are your immediate desires?
- 3. Examine the people/influences around you
- 4. What are your long range plans/goals (10 yrs. at least)
Some of the choices will need to be considered in depth. These decisions may require several acts in order to reach fulfillment. An example would be:
Do you want more children? Does your partner want more? Have you taken the steps to protect yourself? NEVER trust your partner to protect your best interests!
Do you have a passion for travel? Do you have the freedom to drop everything for the weekend and take off? Are you in a place free of responsibilities that will allow you that freedom?
Do you work hard for your money? Do those around you work just as hard and pull their own weight?
Where do you wish to retire? In how many years? Will your current life choices get you there on time?
All of these areas are affected by the people we are around, the food we eat, the habits we have. There is no way to get what we want in only one step. There are no clear black and white choices either. It may be tough and not what we want to do right now. Just remember, if you don't, it is another year before your next socially accepted window of opportunity for change arrives.
