How are you spending the New Year? Are you spending the New Year with family, church, insignificant other or maybe alone? Here is the big picture: “Do not let anyone tell you that you have to spend the New Year with them or your new year will not be right.” The devil is a liar! (John 8:44). There is only one reason to celebrate the New Year, and His name is Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior. Have you made Jesus Lord of your life? Have you received Salvation?
What is Salvation? Most of our lives we are taught to stand on our own two feet. I learned that it is impossible to stand on our own two feet without Christ, who is the Rock on which we build our foundation. To begin building a foundation, we must start with “Salvation,” which means deliverance, health and peace. Salvation includes forgiveness of sin. After we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we must learn to “repent,” which is a principle of salvation. To repent simply means to “turn away from,” to turn away from sin such as, the old person you use to be. It means to turn way from unrighteous acts, rebellion toward God, disobedience toward God’s Word, your bad attitude toward Jesus Christ, and your old nature, which is the nature of the devil, separated from God.
When you desire to do worldly things (unrighteous acts) such as, drinking alcohol, drugs, pornography, homosexuality, people pleasers, love of money, greed, lying; you are acting out the character of the devil. When you want to fulfill wrong desires, here is what Jesus says: You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44).
What is peace? Well, here is what Jesus says about peace: Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful (John 14:27). Therefore, the kind of peace Jesus speaks of is inside of you, where He dwells in your heart. The world teaches you that peace is when there is quietness, but Jesus can give you peace in the middle of Chaos; that deep and lasting peace is given only by the Holy Spirit. Who is the Holy Spirit? the comforter, counselor, teacher, who teaches you all things and reminds you of everything that Jesus has said to you. (John 14:26).
Do you want peace this year? Are you not tired of being angry, insecure, feeling rejected, planting fear in the hearts of others because of your own insecurities, running from the law, lack of confidence, low self-esteem. Are you not worn down from this type of character, which is of the devil? It’s time to take back your peace from the devil, step out on the authority, and power that Christ have invested in you over the devil. Jesus said, “"Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you (Luke 10:19). Yet, all the power that Jesus has given you, he does not want you to rejoice for that reason, but here is why Jesus said you should rejoice: "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven” (Luke 10:20).
Therefore, celebrate the New Year 2014 with your newly found character in Christ Jesus, full of peace, deliverance, forgiveness of sin, health and love. Worship the Lord Jesus Christ in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:24). However, you cannot celebrate that your name is written in heaven unless you have accepted Jesus as Lord of your life.
How do I accept Jesus as Lord of my life?
I (say your name) confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord. I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead, now I am saved. Join a church that preaches the word of God, and get involved, use your gifts/talent to the glory of God; allow the pastor of that church to watch over your soul. God has commanded the leaders of the church to support HIM in watching over the souls of man. Your leaders are accountable to God.
Remembe to do what Jesus requires of you: "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33).
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you. Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a good conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves honorably in all things.…
“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”
