The city lights of Newtown, Connecticut will start to fizzle out as the dawn of 2013 will usher in a new beginning. The glow of the early morning sun will bathe the roof top of the Sandy Hook Elementary School where the most beautiful and innocent lives were lost in the early hours of December 14th. The snailing shadows of the night will pause to pay homage to the departed souls till the dawn of the day. Someone in the city of Newtown will light a candle on the sidewalk and say a prayer in silence. Someone in the far reaches of this dwelling will kiss the picture frames for the last time in the year 2012. Someone will let all the tears flow from the eyes as if the passing year will also wash with it the scars of that fateful day.
The last day of the year 2012 will cast its glow on the green lawns of the White House in Washington D.C. The shadows of the evening will widen, darken and then lead the way to the first light of 2013. The American President and his family will pause for a second to think of the children and teachers of the Sandy Hook Elementary, whose voices echoed through the school corridors for the last time in 2012. He will reflect once more on how to make the American schools safe for its own children.
Parents of all elementary schools in the nation will feel the pangs of pain for those whose loved ones will never return to celebrate with them. They will hug their children a little more closer on the last day of 2012. The first responders, fire fighters, city officials and the policemen of Newtown will hug and kiss their children in the last hours of 2012. The teachers of Sandy Hook School will also welcome 2013; their hearts still heavy at the loss of their students, friends, colleagues and coworkers.
The children of elementary schools all over the country will talk to themselves in silence; whisper in their hearts and to each other about those students who never lived to see the year 2013.
For the American people, there has never been a better time for self-reflection than the beginning of 2013. Alongside all celebrations, rejoicing and fireworks, it remains for us to see the writing on the wall. The New Year's resolution for 2013 is a call for direct action; our foremost duty to protect our children, our schools, our dreams and the future of this great country. As an expression of our compassion for the affected families of Newtown, let us pay our sincere homage. Let us make an honest resolution, because this time our country is calling upon us.
