New information regarding the controller for Microsoft’s next-generation home console surfaced on April 2 which suggests that the controller for Xbox 720, codenamed Durango, won’t be much different from the controller for the Xbox 360 in terms of size, functionality, or shape.
According to sources via Kotaku, the Xbox 720 controller shipped to developers is very similar to the current Xbox 360 one. The controller features all the expected analog sticks (positioned identically as on a 360), four face-buttons, d-pad, left and right triggers, left and right bumpers, and centered power button.
The only noticeable difference is that the controller is a little smaller than the current Xbox 360 model. Otherwise the controller is no different from what people are using today on their Xbox 360.
Functionality wise there is no touch-screen or touchpad to be found.
As to why there have not been any photographic leaks of the Xbox 720 – Durango – controller, Kotaku’s source states that the controller, the hardware, and Kinect 2.0 all have black and white stripes – a possible means of negating leaks by giving each company a custom pattern for easier tracking.
Currently, it is rumored that the Xbox 720 will be officially announced in late May – full story here.
