"Pulse: White Out the New World Symphony" will take place on Friday, Feb. 21, enveloping the audience in a music event that blends contemporary classical music with DJ-spun electronica and wraps up with the audience joining in for a giant dance party.
This twice-annual high-energy event is one of South Beach's most eagerly awaited cultural events. There will be an unusual twist this year as audience members are invited to deck themselves in all-white garb to "white out" the spectacular New World Center concert hall.
The evening will feature popular DJ Laura of Miami, who is joining forces for the New World Symphony for the event. She is Music Director + Programming Director for the internet radio startup Klangbox.fm., where she hosts the popular "Vamas a La Playa." She also has performed at Ultra Music Festival and nearly every club in town.
In addition, the music-packed evening will also feature "Pulse Unplugged," a 15-minute set of orchestral music set in the style of MTV's "Unplugged" series. For this "concert with a concert," a group of New World Symphony Fellows performs a piece without amplification in an intimate setting within the concert hall.
The setting of Pulse is unique. Instead of the traditional concert hall setting, where an audience sits and listens to the orchestra up front, the entire venue is transformed. Some of the musicians will be located on stage lifts, while other portions of the main stage are lowered to the floor, allowing audience members to walk among the performers throughout the evening. The hall's seating will be retracted, so there is room for dancing, socializing and cocktails.
Pulse: Late Night at the New World Symphony has been featured in media outlets including the Miami Herald and the Wall Street Journal and is on the cover of the current issue of "Symphony" magazine, where it is celebrated for its success in attracting new audiences to classical music.
Ticket prices start at $25 and are available at the New World Symphony Box office by calling (305) 673-3331 or can be ordered online.
