New Wii Virtual Console title, ‘The King of Fighters ‘98’ available for download (Photos)

Nintendo’s official website has confirmed the release of a new Virtual Console title, “The King of Fighters ‘98”. This title was released on March 7, 2013 at a price of 900 Wii points (the equivalent of $9.00). “The King of Fighters ‘98” is the fifth title in the long running “King of Fighters” series and was originally released in Arcades back in 1998 (as its title suggests). It has since appeared on many different consoles, and is now being sent to the Wii Virtual Console.

Also as its title suggests, “The King of Fighters ‘98” is a fighting game. The object, as should be expected, is to simply beat the player’s opponent in combat. The game does not have a strict storyline mode, and thus the fighting came to the forefront of development. There are 38 characters in the roster, which is quite large considering when it originally released. This game was also designed as a sort of fan service title, in that many characters from previous games returned, even if they were killed in the storylines in those titles. This title was actually considered to be one of the best in the entire franchise. It has well-done graphics, and the characters are very well balanced too.
