The site will feature advice, opinion pieces, how-to's, essays, interviews, and news relevant to the OurWomanhood.com community in the blog section. "We talk about everything- from disciplining your teenager (without going to jail) to horrible sex," says Jasmine. Readers can expect multiple content to be posted Monday through Friday. Our Womanhood was created with the purpose of allowing the everyday black woman to be heard and appreciated. When asked about how the site came about, Jasmine stated "I wanted a place for us to just 'be,' - to laugh, learn, and live- no facades, no restraints, and no unrealistic expectations. I couldn't find that anymore- not in this way. Right now, I feel like we, as black women, are losing our faith in places we used to look to for advice and information. We need our own space."
With their angle being storytelling, the foundation of most articles comes from women who talentedly combine personal experience with sound information. Storytelling allows the reader to connect to content on a more personal level. The new website is aimed at black women between 21 and 50 years of age who are looking for evergreen topics presented to them with a fresh twist. OurWomanhood.com focuses on womanhood, motherhood, entrepreneurship, education and health. With its clever and relatable tone, it reads as conversational and is undoubtedly humorous.
The blog encourages conversation and interaction. "I feel that, even though social media has allowed us to connect on a more immediate basis, some of the personalization of relationships has dissolved. I wanted to bring that back and push narratives to the forefront of this interaction," states Jasmine. The website highlights the importance of community and regards its readers as a "tribe." It also acknowledges that communication is an important component in sustaining the tribe and helping to build Our Womanhood into a leading voice. "We look forward to keeping the conversation going about black womanhood by connecting in person through our meet-ups, conversations, and first conference," says Jasmine.
