New video clip, details about George Harrison doc, CD tracklist as airdate nears

As the HBO showings in the U.S. and theater showings in the UK of "George Harrison: Living in the Material World" get closer, a lot of information has been showing up recently, including some scattered info about the eventual release of the film on DVD in the U.S. Some, but not all of those questions were answered in a newsletter sent out this week by the Harrison website.

To backtrack a little, in the U.S., as we've previously reported), the film will be broadcast Oct. 5-6 on HBO. For those who can't wait until the film airs on HBO and live in the Midwest, there will be one public benefit screening for the David Lynch Foundation this Sunday. (Here are the details.)

In the UK, the film will be screened in theaters, generally on Oct. 4. (See the link for theaters and more details.)

The newsletter featured a new preview clip of the film. You can see that clip at left. In the first hours after the newsletter went out, the site was apparently overwhelmed with viewers trying to see it and it went down for several hours. (You can see the first clip released from the film in one of our previous stories.)

Now for the interesting part. "George Harrison: Living in the Material World" will be released on home video in the UK Oct. 10 in DVD, Blu-Ray and Deluxe Edition versions. The film, however, won't be out on home video in the U.S. until the spring, according to the newsletter.

The limited-edition Deluxe version, packaged in a "bespoke picture frame box with easel back for photo display," according to the description, will be a huge package and include 2 DVDs, a Blu-ray featuring the film plus 11 bonus features, a 10-track CD of previously unreleased recordings, two exclusive lithographs and a 96-page book, the newsletter says.

Bob Dylan Examiner Harold Lepidus notes that the two of the songs are Bob Dylan covers. According to reports we've heard, not all the tracks on the CD are in the movie. Still not known is whether the CD of unreleased tracks will be released in the U.S. or anywhere, for that matter, outside of the deluxe edition.

A reminder to those of you who can't wait and plan to order the UK Deluxe Edition -- you'll need to be sure your DVD player can handle Region 2 DVDs. Otherwise, you won't be able to view the DVDs. (Computer DVD players can also handle multi-regions, but depending on the players, you may only be able to make limited region changes to accomodate them. Check the instructions with your computer program to be sure.)

The companion book, which we reviewed here, is available through shops in the U.S. and the UK.

Two special magazines were announced, then a third -- and we've heard a special LIFE magazine issue is also due, though we haven't been able to confirm it nor have we seen one.

And there's even more on the horizon. Wired reported that Dhani Harrison is working on apps for the iPhone and iPad on his father's guitar collection. The story didn't have any further details or when the apps would appear.
