New 'Vampire Diaries' theory revealed about the Original family and the Petrovas

November 8, 2011 - In light of the many speculations on The Vampire Diaries Original family and the Petrova dopplegangers, we have revealed a new theory on the matter.

If anyone has been paying attention, they should take notice that the last name of the Original family has never been revealed. While it may be deemed unimportant by many, we believe that there is a very good reason why this hasn't been disclosed.

After learning about the Original family backstory on Ordinary People (EP308), we know that the curse Esther put on Klaus to keep his werewolf side dormant was done in Mystic Falls. This means that the doppleganger had to be there as well, because the curse was sealed using her blood.

So, this brings up the question of how did a Petrova from Bulgaria end up in Mystic Falls with the Originals 1,000 years ago? Well, one way would be if she was related to the Originals and thus, part of the family.

Now, this brings us to our theory... What if the Original family's last name was Petrova? There are two children in the family that we haven't met yet, as Elijah told Elena that there were a total of seven children in the family.

What if one of those children was named Katerina (another 'k' name? is it coincidence?) Could 'our' Katherine be named after her great-great-great-(times ten) grandmother? Or, even more crazy... what if the two children were actually twins? Two dopplegangers? And somehow, when the curse was created, it set in motion the fact that Katerina's double would come back every so many years in case she was needed to deal with Klaus should he ever break the curse...

It could also mean that Katerina (and maybe her twin, unless only one sister was used in the curse) was not turned into a vampire and continued the family line by bearing children, until the Katherine we know today turned into a regular vampire. And, as we know, Katherine had a daughter, which is the lineage where Elena's mom, Isobel, came from and where ultimately, the doppleganger Elena came to be.

This could also mean that if Katerina had a twin who was not used in the curse, she may also be an Original. She, then, could very well be the one who is in the mysterious 4th coffin in Klaus' trailer truck.

'Vampire Diaries - Ordinary People': Original secrets revealed, but much untold

While it is a crazy idea, it could easily fit into the Original story, it would also fit in with the fact that Klaus never cared much for Katerina, or the dopplegangers, because they were part of his mother's curse on him. And it would also explain why Elijah had a soft spot for the dopplegangers and always tried to spare their lives. His love for them was about family, not just a crush.

And... for another mystery, why doesn't Elijah have a 'k' in his name? Could this also be because of some big secret?
