Last night a new TV show about cars premiered on the Velocity channel. The show is called Americarna and is comparable in theme to shows like American Pickers or Who Do You Think You Are?, but with cars. Host of AmeriCarna is Nascar crew chief Ray Evernham who goes to rural and urban America to find iconic cars and learns the history of the cars and how they shape American culture while meeting some key people in car culture.
For instance, last night was about finding Woodies in California and moonshiner's cars in North Carolina. The Woody car came about when there was a shortage of metal because of the war but the Woody also became an icon of the California surf culture. Moonshiners had to have cars with enough speed to outrace the law so they powered up their engines and subsequently started the automotive racing scene.
In the next episode on February 4th at 8:00 PM, Evernham finds Marty Robbins' old race car and tells the story of Snake and Mongoose that changed American car culture. If you want to view AmeriCarna, it is on Tuesday nights at 8:00 PM on the Velocity channel.
