New Tunes : "Anaconda" by Nicki Minaj

Who is Nicki Minaj? A rapper? A singer? A songwriter? An actress, or entrepreneur ? The answer is all of the above. In addition to wearing many hats, The 4 time Grammy nominee has also earned eight BET Awards, four American Music Awards, and five Billboard Music Awards among others.

Before bursting onto the scene with her colorful wigs, and outlandish costumes, and multiple characters, she was simply known as Onika Maraj.

Born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, the Indian and Afro-Trinidadian starlet relocated to Jamaica, Queens, New York at the age of 5. Once bursting onto the scene in 2004, Ms. Minaj went through a series of obstacles and contracts, but after she signed a record deal with Young Money Entertainment, August of 2009, she skyrocketed to superstardom.

Fast forward to 2014, Minaj is the most-charted female rapper in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, with countless appearances.

In the midst of its popular predecessor, "Pills n Potions" Ms. Minaj returns with the Polow da Don & Da Internz produced "Anaconda".

With it's recognizable sample of Cyndi Lauper's 80s gem “Time after Time”, and its high-tempo electronic beat, “Anaconda” is not, the large, non-venomous snake found in tropical South America, instead its your typical Nicki Minaj concoction of delightful Pop laced Hip Hop.

In high school crush form Nicki sings to a potential male suitor as she purrs “Maybe you and maybe me can maybe meet and make a baby” She continues with her playful repetition of,

“I see you in the A
I see you at the bay
I see you everyday
But I don't know what to say
So I’ll be at the ball
Till 12:00a
I'll be your Cinderella ella ella a”

She aims to please her potential lover with erotic assurance as she coos,

“I'll be your sun boy
And I will guide you
You'll be my wave and "I’ll always ride you
And I'll give anything, to prove that I really care"

If one can drift focus away from its provocative cover art, “Anaconda” is definitely worth a listen. The song will be also featured on Minaj’s third album Pink Print which is set to be released later this year.

Minaj's debut studio album, Pink Friday peaked at number 1 on the US Billboard 200 and was certified platinum. Released in 2010, its most successful single, "Super Bass", was certified 8× platinum and has sold over four million copies, becoming one of the best-selling singles in the United States.

Released in 2012, her second studio album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded topped the Billboard 200 and became one of the best-selling albums of that year. Its lead single, "Starships", peaked at number 5 in the United States and became one of the best-selling singles of 2012.
