New Tomb Raider game hits store shelves (Photos)

The new highly-anticipated Tomb Raider game from Square Enix was released worldwide today. Developed by Crystal Dynamics, the game is a reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise and focuses on a younger Lara Croft. It has received generally positive review scores from critics thus far. The Xbox 360 version of the game currently has an 86 aggregate review score on Metacritic including a few perfect scores.

"Creating something truly special is incredibly challenging. You have got to really want it: you have to be passionate; you have to care about it, and you have to dedicate yourself," said Darrell Gallagher, Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics, in an official press release today. "We have a studio full of talented people who have put their hearts into making this game - this is not just a game on their resumé, speak to any one of them, they’ve been on a journey. We hope that the game we’ve built will endure and that this is a well deserving renaissance for Lara Croft."
