The boutique boom in the New York hotel business continues with the August 1 opening of The Nolitan, the 55-room property located at the corner of Kenmare and Elizabeth Streets and the only boutique hotel in the city’s Nolita neighborhood.
The Nolitan positions itself as “luxury meets low-key” and its guest rooms and amenities convey that feeling. Rooms are either Neighborhood or Cityscape (some with private balconies and others with floor-to-ceiling windows) and feature a king or queen size bed, hardwood oak floors and Corian-accented bathrooms appointed with rain shower fixtures, plush bathrobes and bath amenities by Nolita’s own Red Flower. Most guest rooms have an open-bathroom layout and a separate toilet area. Modern amenities include 37-inch HD flat-screen televisions by LG and iPod-enabled stereos by Vers. Average nightly rates range from $275 to $400.
Personalized attention is the watchword at The Nolitan. Each reservation is followed up with a direct email asking guests to complete a personal profile that enables the staff to anticipate needs and provide customized service—from the right pillow type to booking a bath for a guest’s dog (yes, The Nolitan is pet-friendly!). Other perks and services include a standard 2 p.m. checkout; free WiFi; free daily access to Equinox Fitness; complimentary use of bicycles and skateboards; and daily delivery of The New York Times.
The hotel was designed by New York-based Grzywinski+Pons to fit seamlessly into the neighborhood feel of Nolita. Since The Nolitan is about feeling at home and like a part of the community, creating comfortable and welcoming public spaces in the hotel was essential. The Nolitan features a lobby lounge that has a library curated by Phaidon Books; the on-site seasonal American restaurant ellabess (which opens this month); and a landscaped rooftop with sweeping city views of downtown, midtown and Brooklyn (but no swimming pool, for travelers used to that luxury).
The Nolitan was created by Veracity Development, which has deep roots in this community and says it is fully invested in the long-term growth and prosperity of Nolita. Veracity owner Edmond Li says, “With The Nolitan Hotel, I hope to share this place with citizens of the world, while creating a hub for the neighborhood that year-round residents can enjoy. The Nolitan Hotel is both a luxury boutique property and a neighborhood place where everyone will feel at home.”
The Nolitan is located at 30 Kenmare St. For reservations and more information, contact the hotel at 212-925-2555 or visit the website at www.nolitanhotel.com.
