New team plans Daytona debut

A new team plans to make its presence known in Sprint Cup Series racing when NASCAR heads to Daytona in February. Keyed-Up Motorsports, founded by Virginia's Raymond Key, plans to make its debut in the 2010 Daytona 500 on Feb. 14.

Team owner Key is the younger brother of Curtis Key, the owner of Key Motorsports, which competes in the Nationwide Series.

On Wednesday, the team announced via press release that veteran crew chief Doug Richert will crew chief the team's No. 90 car. The team is still in the process of hiring crew members to fill other positions. A driver has yet to be named.

"Keyed-Up Motorsports is very thankful to have Doug guiding our No. 90 team," Key said. "As a past-champion crew chief, Doug can definitely get the job done and fulfill our first-year goal of being competitive at the track."

The team will operate out of a shop in Mooresville, N.C., and field Chevrolets it recently purchased from Dale Earnhardt Inc. Keyed-Up Motorsports will receive engines and engineering support from the Key Motorsports Nationwide Series team. At this point, the new team is committed to attempt the first five races of the 2010 season.

"Although a challenging endeavor, I believe that the Keyed-Up No. 90 car can be competitive at the track," Richert said.
