New ‘Super Smash Bros. 4’ Wii U and 3DS playable character potentially revealed

There may be a new character joining the roster of Super Smash Bros. 4 for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. According to a report by VG427 from Jan. 22, images have leaked of Palutena, of Kid Icarus: Uprising fame, appearing in Super Smash Bros. 4 as a playable character. Though Nintendo has not announced her as a playable character as of yet, the images certainly seem convincing enough to suggest an official announcement may be coming soon.

Normally easy to dismiss fake game images, this situation is bit more complicated as the character model used for Palutena appears to be new and not reused assets from a previous Smash Bros. title or Kid Icarus: Uprising. Likewise, the background image from the Super Smash Bros. 4 stage appears to be new.

Despite this rather strong evidence, neither Nintendo nor Sakurai have confirmed Palutena for Super Smash Bros. 4 as a playable character or as an assist trophy.

To date, Nintendo and Sakurai have announced four new characters for Super Smash Bros. 4 with the inclusion of Mega Man, Wii Fit Training, The Village from Animal Crossing, and Rosalina and Luma from Super Mario Galaxy.

In total, twenty-one characters have been confirmed for Super Smash Bros. 4 for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS at this time.

Super Smash Bros. 4 is expected to launch on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in 2014. Expect to hear more about its release date at E3 2014 later this year.
