Masahiro Sakurai, director of the Super Smash Bros. series, has confirmed a new playable character for the Super Smash Bros. 4 roster. Although Lucario was in Smash Bros. Brawl, Sakurai revealed that the development team has made a number of tweaks to the character that will increase the strength of Lucario’s Aura attacks a considerable amount. By strengthening the Aura attacks, Lucario will grow stronger and inflict more powerful attacks as he takes on a high amount of damage. Find Sakurai’s full comment below:

The heroic Aura Pokémon, Lucario, joins the battle!! We've increased the influence of Aura this time, so a damaged Lucario is truly a force to be reckoned with.

Aside from detailing the changes made to Lucario’s Aura abilities, Sakurai also revealed information on how and why Lucario joined the Smash Bros. character roster. During the development of Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii, the development worked hard on expanding the roster and this gave Lucario an opening to join the fun. Read Sakurai’s full comment below:

Lucario joined the battle for the first time in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was released six years ago. The production staff of Brawl worked really hard to expand the character roster--without their efforts, Lucario probably never would have joined the battle.

Super Smash Bros. 4 will see release for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in 2014.
