A new study conducted at Connecticut University to study the effects of sugar dependency. The study was released on October 16, 2013, stating that Oreos are as addictive as cocaine. This makes perfect sense to all of us who have ever tried to eat one Oreo, you can’t do it. Now, try to eat one rice cake, pretty easy isn’t it?
Essentially, this was what the research found. They allowed mice to eat rice cakes and Oreos. The mice received no pleasure from eating rice cakes at all, and did not want to eat them. In fact, they found they almost avoided them, after trying them. The Oreos, though, were preferred by the mice. They kept going back to the area where the Oreos were looking for more.
The moral of the story is that our beloved Oreos are technically a drug. More thought needs to go into what we allow to be fed to our bodies. If sugar can react in the mice body like a drug, it isn’t a big jump to assume, it can do the same thing to us.
