New studies show work to be number one cause of stress

A United Kingdom charity called Mind found in a study that the number one cause of stress comes from the workplace. The study included 2000 individuals, of which just over a third stated that they suffer from workplace stress. This percentage is twice as high as individuals who considered their health issues to be the cause of stress, and four points more than individuals who named their financial situation as the reason.

Stress is known to be the trigger of various medical conditions. Past research concluded that stress increases the risk of a person having a heart attack by about 23%. The research also linked this stress to anxiety and suicidal thoughts.

It is common for such things to cause individuals to drink. In fact, almost 60% of individuals who suffer from high levels of workplace stress drink after work while about 14% of these people admit to drinking during their work shift to help them to cope. Other methods that individuals may use to cope with workplace stress may include sleeping pills, antidepressants, cigarettes, and various controlled substances.

Because stress has the ability to affect individuals physically, mentally, and emotionally, it is important that it is treated. There are various methods by which the issue can be dealt with. Anyone having difficulty with stress caused by work or otherwise is urged to talk to a medical professional as soon as possible.
