Finally, teens and twenty-somethings on Long Island have a place to go and not only purchase gently-used, brand-name clothing, but a place to also sell their lightly-used clothing and accessories and get cash for them. Unique recycling retail chain Plato’s Closet® opened their very first Long Island location last month at 6153 Jericho Turnpike, Commack, NY 11725. It is now one of almost 400 locations in North America (The United States and Canada).

Plato’s Closet® is a recycling retail chain that pays for mildly-used clothing and accessories that pays cash on the same day of your visit. Customers bring in their used stuff, and while they browse the store’s for-sale items, a buyer will review the items and create an offer based on style, condition, brand and the store's current stock levels. They will then present the offer and, once accepted by the customer, the customer will then receive their cash payment (which they may choose to keep or use to buy a new outfit).

“Plato’s Closet® fills a distinct niche in the retail market. I am a part of a unique retail resale business that specializes in the teen and young adult market segment,” Owner of the new Commack Plato’s Closet Michael Landsberg said. "The great thing about the concept is that consumers are always looking for ways to stretch their dollar and Plato’s Closet lets them save money in two ways. Customers can achieve savings up to 70 percent off trendy, brand-name clothing and accessories. Plus, they can receive cash on the spot for gently-used items that are outgrown or no longer wanted.”

Most stores buy and sell girl’s sizes 0/1 to 15/16 and guy’s sizes 28 to 40 waist and focus on buying and selling styles that are no older than 12-18 months. No appointment is needed to sell and they buy clothing and accessories from all seasons.

Each store, including the Commack store, has a website with hours, events and location information, a style blog, and trending news (so that you can see what they’re looking for before you go in to buy). Current trends for the Commack store are distressed skinnies, ankle boots, embossed bags, flowy tops, bangles, printed jeans, lace details, florals, chambray shirts and bold blazers. Plato’s Closet® in Commack is open Monday through Saturday 10a.m.–9p.m. and Sunday noon–5p.m.
