J.J. Abrams' new entry into the "Star Trek" franchise will no doubt be one of the hottest tickets in town when it is released on May 17, but you could win a chance to attend the US premiere of the film and see it before everyone else.
Paramount Pictures has teamed up with Qualcomm Labs to create a new "Star Trek Into Darkness" application for smart phones that will allow users to closer interact with the soon-to-be-released film. Every download is a chance to win a VIP trip to the premiere.
The app functions by analyzing its surroundings using audio scans, geo-location recognition, and image recognition functionality. When it picks up on promotion for the new Star Trek movie it gives the user access to cool exclusive features. The first opportunity to use the app will come during this year's Super Bowl, which will include a new Star Trek Into Darkness TV spot during the second quarter.
The film reunites the Enterprise crew from 2009's "Star Trek" with the addition of Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC's "Sherlock") as the yet unnamed villain. Much speculation has surrounded the secrecy of the villain in the film, and fans continue to debate who they think he might be.
Will you be downloading the app? Who do you think the villain will be?
