Wazee Supper Club has had its doors open since 1974 – decades before LoDo was the hippest part of downtown Denver. This landmark restaurant is getting ready to brighten up its menu, just in time for the summer weather.
While pizzas, pastas and salads, are tradition at Wazee, Chef Bob, who has been at the helm of the kitchen since December 2012, brought along his creative side when he picked up the gig. Sure, Wazee’s foundation is still there, but added to the well-established menu are delicious creations like Grilled Herb and Garlic Polenta with sun-dried tomato pesto. The Wazee Salad is a true favorite which will have the non-veggie eaters lining up for seconds! Spinach, candied pecans, dried cranberries, diced apples, crumbled blue cheese, and mild red onions are all tossed in a simple balsamic vinaigrette. All of the flavors complement each other, so none overpower any others.
If you ask Chef Bob what he recommends, he will tell you it’s the Prosciutto Rucola Pizza. Onions, roasted red peppers, and 18-month aged prosciutto are layered over pesto sauce. After the pizza is baked, arugula is tossed in a honey-cider dressing and piled high over the pizza. This pizza is killer! The sweet dressing cuts the spicy arugula and pairs so well with the salty aged prosciutto.
A pizza as amazing as the rucola can only be followed with a dessert which is even more amazing – Candied Bacon Waffles with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Yes, it’s true! Bacon waffles are topped with ice cream! This is worth the trip to LoDo alone. It is a super balanced dish. The waffle is hot; the ice cream is cold. The bacon is salty and savory; the caramel sauce is sweet. The bacon is crunchy; the waffle is soft. It really is a bacon lover’s dream!
But the fun-with-bacon doesn’t end at dessert! Wazee offers a complimentary bacon happy hour every Friday from 4-6pm. Daily bacon specials are laid out on the bar where patrons can sample!
While the kitchen cranks out plates of bacon, the bar is busy crafting cocktails such as a Basil Lemon Drop Martini, or a Pear Martini. The bar also keeps over 30 beers on tap, many of which are local Colorado brews. Can’t decide which beer to try? Ask for flight and you can taste selections in 4oz samples.
At the end of May, Wazee will be unveiling more dishes to their lighter spring and summer menu. The Tuna and Golden Beet Salad mixes arugula with orange segments, roasted golden beets, red onion, goat cheese, which are all tossed in a vanilla porter dressing. A fillet of seared tuna sits on top. Be sure to check out the Wazee Wedge once it’s released. This is not your granddaddy’s salad! Gorgonzola vinaigrette will be drizzled over duck bacon, marinated cherry tomatoes, and iceberg lettuce. The fresh Mint and Lime Mojitos, a summer favorite of customers, will also be back!
Stop in to Wazee Supper Club and see the same old Wazee, but with a new menu where everything is house-made!
