The question "What do Hideo Kojima, Guillermo Del Toro, and Norman Reedus have in common?" sounds like the setup to a strange riddle or joke. The answer however, is a new Silent Hill game revealed today through an unusual method, revealing the most unexpected teamup on a video game since Square-Enix and Disney made Kingdom Hearts.
Sony put a new demo up on the Playstation Store named P.T. that appeared to be a new horror game announced at Gamescom. However once players such as SoapyWarpig played through it, the demo ended with a teaser trailer announcing the names of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro. The character on screen then turned around to see the familiar (digitized) face of Norman Reedus, along with the actor's name. The teamup was naturally unexpected, though Kojima had been rumored to be taking part in a Silent Hill game for quite a while. There also has been a few other times where Del Toro and Kojima crossed paths.
The creative method of announcing this game is similar to Kojima's bait and switch method of revealing Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, which had a trailer promoting a game simply titled "The Phantom Pain" but did not reveal it was part of the Metal Gear franchise.
The title of the new project is "Silent Hills" with a notable "s" at the end. Whether this is just a working title or an indicator that there will be a series of games instead of one is anyone's guess at this time.
The teamup appears to have been met with positive response. Fans of all sorts appear to think that there is a good possibility of a great game (or games) to come out of this collaboration. The Silent Hill series has had mixed success and critical response in the past, but many fans are hoping this one will be a keeper.
It is still unannounced what platforms the game (or games) will be available on as of this story, but that information will likely be coming soon.
More importantly though, we need to know if there will be an unlockable crossbow. That needs to happen.
