This well known future street slang greeting has surfaced again, making the net rounds more and more, as Shadowrun is set to return in multiple digital forms. Based on the sci-fi fantasy mash-up classic tabletop RPG of the same name, which came before the popular SNES and Sega Genesis games of the same name, a few Shadowrun projects are taking glorious shape over at Shadowrun.com known as Shadowrun Online (http://www.cliffhanger-productions.com/) and Shadowrun Returns (http://harebrained-schemes.com/). Sci-fi and fantasy fans out there may want to keep an eye on these two children of the most well known cyberpunk genre of all time.
Taking place in a dark, gritty, futuristic world setting where an event known as “the awakening” has made magic into a reality alongside the ever present digital matrix technology that wirelessly connects individuals across any distance, Shadowrun is full of mythical creatures and beasts of all sorts, including humans, that fight to survive in a world full of weapons and cybernetics where mega corporations, or megacorps, fight amongst each other while trying to fleece the globe to serve their own agendas. On the edges and within the under bellies of these bizarre blade-runner like environments are individuals known as shadowrunners that serve as mercenaries to anyone willing to pay. Be warned, however, as dragons make very grumpy megacorp CEOs that you may not want to cross.
Both titles look to be shaping up exceptionally well, with Shadowrun Returns even featuring a tool set to create your own adventures, and, so far, they will be cross platform releases able to play from a variety of devices and operating systems.
Stay tuned for more news on this exciting re-birth of Shadowrun!
