The Russians dominated once again with an outstanding performance by Julia Lipnitskaia. Only 15-years-old, Julia brought the house down with yet another incredible performance. She is certainly becoming the favorite to win the individual event. It will be exciting to watch her face off with Yuna Kim and Mao Asada, she will certainly give them a run for their money.
Gracie Gold made some magic of her own skating another brilliant free skate, but this time at the Olympic Games. She was steady, confident and beautiful to watch. This was Gracie’s best performance that she has had on an international level. If she continues to skate as wonderfully as she did in this event, she could very well find herself contenting for a medal in the individual event.
"It was unreal because I was doing the program I was trained to do and I'm thinking, 'I'm looking at the Olympic rings and Sochi'", Gracie Gold shared with the media, "It has been the best year of my life, hands down."
Surprising even herself by coming in third, was Italy’s Valentina Marchei who had a beautiful skate. Valentina does not have some of the athletic and technical abilities that some of the other ladies possess, but she has a strong artistic side that sometimes gives her those additional points. Valentina edged out Japan’s Akiko Suzuki by less then one point.
Akiko had a strong performance but finished in fourth after a step out on her triple loop, with Canadian Kaetlyn Osmond finishing in fifth.
The team event will concluded with the ice dance free skate, where medals will be officially determined.
