This week Roku introduced it's gen 3 set-top box. Roku promises us it's the best in personal streaming TV entertainment out there and based on the specs it could be.
You love living in the City by the Bay, but your gadgets like Roku 3 make it a done deal, right? With more than 750 channels including all of the home theater biggies, Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Instant, Pandora, Spotify and even installed games you can't live without—that's right, Angry Birds—you have the kinds of choices you need to get you through meetings, family affairs and shared studios without losing it. And thanks to your remote control and wireless headphone jack, you're not even bothering anyone, unless you're one of those “weird laughers,” but that's nothing too out of line.
One of the nicest features of the latest in Roku personal streaming TV distraction is the new UI which is benefitting from a much more powerful processor. It's faster, smoother and just all around nicer to use. Oh, and if anything could get Roku an official YouTube channel? It's probably this improvement. Roku 3 is no lightweight in the home theater technology realm; it also features 1080p video, 10/100 Base-T Ethernet jack, dual-band wireless, Ethernet, HDMI, a microSD slot for additional app storage and USB ports.
This $99 baby is a fantastic buy and it just might take a bite out of AppleTV home theater market which has been glacially slow to add channels and services to its personal streaming TV repertoire. Go for it, Roku 3! Who doesn't like to enjoy as big a chunk of the world inside that tiny corner of the break room as he or she can?
