The Refinery has opened its doors at 1209 North Wells Street in Chicago promising a warm, hip, and comfortable soul, a reflection of its Old Town neighborhood. Its mission: fresh foods and handcrafted beverages designed to affordably remain on the cutting edge of the ever-evolving American palate.
Executive Chef Lawrence Letrero, with the assistance of Pastry Chef Hetty Arts, has crafted a tempting, modern American menu in keeping with The Refinery's concept of elevating the familiar through skillful introduction of subtleties.
The Refinery's menu features snacks, shared plates, salads, large plates and desserts. Dinner items range in price from $6 to $28, and highlights include Deviled Eggs (truffle, bacon, celery), Duck Liver Mousse (blackberry, pickled shallot, parsley), Salmon (summer squash, kale, hijiki, genmaicha broth), and Grilled Baby Octopus (wood ear mushrooms, Japanese sweet potato, radish, mint).
Desserts are priced from $2 to $12 and include a Chocolate Pretzel Bar (pretzel caramel, milk chocolate mousse, pretzel ice cream), and a Chocolate Cassava Cake (dark chocolate cremeux, cassava rochers, marshmallow ice cream).
The Refinery's beverage program offers an extensive wine list skillfully selected with a strong California influence including a few on tap. The house signature cocktails include the Moscow Mule (Refinery vodka, lime, ginger beer, Angostura bitters, mint), Old Town Punch (Appleton V/X rum, cognac, peach brandy, lemon, nutmeg), along with the Refinery Manhattan and Paddy Bauler, both available on tap.
True to its Old Town home, the interior is clad in old Chicago common brick and steel, yet dressed up with rich fabrics, woods, and well-appointed lighting.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday and is closed on Mondays. The Refinery is also open for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 a.m. A late night menu is available nightly beginning at 11 p.m.
