This Tuesday February 4, 2014 is a movie lovers dream come true. There is an abundance of potentially great video entertainment that will debut on home video this week. There’s a great quintet of movies that become available with a variety of genres to satisfy each generation of movie lover in your home. Escape Plan (Arnold Swarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone), About Time (Rachael MacAdams, Domhall Gleeson, and Bill Nighy), The Dallas Buyers Club (Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner), Baggage Claim (Paula Patton, Taye Diggs, and Jill Scott), Justice League: War (Michelle Monahagan, Shemar Moore, and Sean Astin), and Free Birds (Woody Harelson and Amanda Poehler) all find their way to the shelves of your favorite video store and will entice you to delve deeper into your pockets.
The Spotlight: Justice League: War: The newest animated feature from DC comics that unites some of their greatest heroes in an adult themed retelling of the origin of the Justice League of America (JLA or The Superfriends for those of us old enough to remember). This action packed reimagining is a great way to unite two generations of comic book lovers. On the heels of the success of the Avengers movie, this should be a treat.
In spite of the great plethora of choices that are coming from the big screen this week, the direct to video choices are not as abundant. There’s only three films that are worthy of making this week list. They each feature some great talent and may be worth you spending a couple of extra dollars at the video store this week. Here’s the week’s best:
Romeo and Juliet (Hailee Steinfield and Douglas Booth)
A Case of You (Justin Long, Evan Rachel Wood, and Vince Vaughn)
Banshee Chapter (Ted Levine, Katia Winter, and Michael McMillian)
You can pre-order any of the titles from Amazon.com or just wait until Tuesday, then head down to my favorite local movie dealer, Sound Garden in Fells Point
