Cincinnati, Ohio Hip-Hop fans can listen to Jamie Drastik's single on radio station 101.1, WIZF.
The rapper in question is Jamie Drastik. He's newly signed to none other than Top 40/Hip Hop star Pitbull's music label Mr. 305 Inc./Famous Artist Music/ Prospect Music Group. Drastik currently has one of the hottest songs in the country right now with his new single, "Save Me". It's one of the most added songs on national Rhythmic radio this week. And get this: Jamie Drastik (and Pitbull's label) isn't even connected to a major label. So, you can imagine what could, or, will happen when Drastik and his bosses have major label backing.
As you can imagine, Jamie has a busy schedule. But, he took time to talk about his on-fire career.
Greg Simms Jr: Who IS Jamie Drastik? Where are you from originally? How old are you?
Jamie Drastik: I am a hip hop artist from NY State, the (845) area code. I am 27.
GS: How did you get into rapping? How long have you been an MC?
JD: I have been rapping since grade school. I had an older brother that would pass down some of his older cassette tapes to me.
GS: How did you end up meeting/getting discovered by Pitbull?
JD: I was pushing a song to radio in my hometown. The spins were enough to catch Pitbull's business partner, Robert Fernandez's eye and reach out to sign me.
GS: Are you aligned with a major label?
JD: Not today.
GS: How does it feel to have one of the MOST ADDED songs to Rhythmic radio right now?
JD: Pretty good. When I see the other names on that list, it almost looks like a mistake. But there is no mistake about where were headed right now. It also shows me we have a lot to work to do. I'm not the #1 most added record.
GS: What are your mixtape plans?
JD: Hopefully not to have to do anymore of them. (Laughter) No I'm just kidding. I have put 2 mixtapes out and they have received a few accolades. I like doing the mixtapes. It seems as if were going to have to put another one together for back to school time.
GS: What are your full length album plans?
JD: I want to put together a classic album. I know sales aren't what they used to be but I'm attempting to make my Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, and Ready To Die.
GS : I see that you have collabos with Fat Joe, Kelly Rowland, and of course, Pitbull. Are these mixtape or album cuts?
JD: The track I have with Kelly Ro is featured on Pitbull's album. It is called "Castles Made of Sand". Yes, other tracks are mixtape tracks
GS: It seems you've been around some heavy talent. How has that affected you, if at all?
JD: Makes me a little more sure of my talent and my lane. To go in the studio with Fat Joe, a New York legend, was one of the best moments of my career so far. He's done so much for New York Hip Hop. I have a lot of respect for Joe.
GS: What kind of rapper/artist are you? Hardcore? Pop?
JD: I am a truthful artist, whether it makes me look like the cool kid or the kid at the lunch table by himself. I will give you the truth, and the truth works in all genres.
GS : What are you trying to achieve in the business, ultimately?
JD: To out do who I am being taught by. I think that is the ultimate thank you to my mentor. I just want to work hard and give who I am, which might land me at the Grammys or the unemployment line. I've been to one already. Time to go to the other one.
