On Aug 1, Disney Parks Blog announced runDisney will add a new challenge to its series of destination race events. The inaugural Pixie Dust Challenge will be offered as part of the 2015 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend at Disneyland Resort.
Participants who register for the limited number of Pixie Dust Challenge spots will run, or walk, both the Tinker Bell 10K and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon races. Those who complete both races will receive finishers medals for those two races and a third, fairy-themed medal to mark the accomplishment.
This year, the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend moves to May 7 – 10, a period that includes Mother’s Day Weekend. The women-focused race weekend, which attracted more than 30,000 participants in 2014, includes a number of races: the Never Land 5K on Friday, May 8; the Tinker Bell 10K and the runDisney Kids Races, both on Saturday; and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon on Sunday. The race weekend also includes a Health and Fitness Expo that Thursday through Saturday, and a Pasta in the Park Party on Friday night.
General registration for the 2015 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend, including the new Pixie Dust Challenge, begins Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 12 p.m. EDT/9 a.m. PDT. Races are expected to sell out quickly. In its press release for the Pixie Dust Challenge, Disney Sports notes the 2014 Tinker Bell sold out less than two days after it open to the general public.
The Pixie Dust Challenge is the latest of runDisney’s additions and expansions to its race lineup. In 2014, runDisney has announced two new race weekends for Disneyland Resort: the Avengers Half Marathon Weekend (Nov. 14-16) and the Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend (Jan. 15-18). The Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend, Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, and Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, all offer race challenges for runners wishing to complete two or more races during the same weekend.
Runners who complete the Tinker Bell Half Marathon can also “take” the runDisney Coast to Coast Challenge. Participants who complete a runDisney half marathon or longer race at both Disneyland Resort and the Walt Disney World Resort in the same calendar year will receive a special Coast to Coast medal. Those to complete the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon in May will receive a pink version; it features the likeness of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse with a pink overlay and lanyard.
