New R.I. Gov. Lincoln Chafee makes life easier for illegal aliens

On Wednesday, newly installed Rhode Island governor, Lincoln Chafee rescinded an executive order put in place by his predecessor, Gov. Donald Carcieri  which ordered state agencies and their vendors to use the E-verify system to screen-out illegal aliens for employment.

Gov. Chafee also ordered the Rhode Island State Police to stop participating in the federal 287(g) program which allowed them direct access to an immigration database when they suspect an arrestee to be in the country illegally.

The program has proven very successful in identifying and reporting illegal aliens to federal authorities.

Immediately after signing the order, Chafee said: “My view is that Rhode Island can grow economically by being a tolerant place to do business. The immigrant-rich areas, I want to see them prosper, and they need it.’’

Chafee went on to tell the gathered crowd, many of whom identified themselves only as “immigrants,” that immigration is an issue to be dealt with only by the federal government, and expressed his support for legislation offering citizenship to illegal aliens.

One of those at the signing ceremony, Frank Garcia, who described himself as a “Guatemalan immigrant” who works at a Providence printing company, told am Associated Press reporter:   “We come here to work hard. I know some people make mistakes. . . . Most of us are working hard, make better lives, live the American dream.”

Lincoln Chafee was widely regarded as the most liberal Republican in the U.S. Senate. After he was defeated in 2006 by Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse, Chafee declared himself an independent.

In 2008 Chafee endorsed Obama for president, and described Sarah Palin as a “cocky wacko.”

The unemployment rate in Rhode Island is currently 11.6 percent (Source: Rhode Island Department of Labor).

    I just don't get it...I really don't.
I'm a legal immigrant and I cannot understand why there is such a protective attitude towards illegals that are soaking up MY taxes.

This article states that our politicians will try to stop legislation aimed at invaders who are here illegally.
    What is wrong with them??

Chafee the Clown has counted the votes and decided that ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS deserve the same chance that ANMERICAN CITZENS do to apply and hold for a job in the USA.
Arizona tax payers should be buying bus tickets for the tens of thousands we have here, for a one way trip to Providence.

    Good Luck, Rhode Island.
