On Saturday, December 10, 2011, New Psalmist Baptist Church (www.newpsalmist.org), located at 6020 Marian Drive, Baltimore, fed and gave Christmas gifts of coats, toys and other children’s items to approximately 300 families. Sponsored by the Missions and Discipleship departments of the church, Discipleship classes “Adopted a Family” and purchased gifts for the families and the church donated boxes of food for families of with two or more children.
Discipleship classes shopped for gifts based on the children's ages and then went out into the community as a team to the home of the family chosen by the Missions Ministry. Giving gifts all over the city and county areas of Baltimore was an exciting time and a morning full of preparation. My class, the Women of Faith, met with our family in Baltimore City and had the opportunity to meet with a family who did not know how they were going to provide Christmas presents for their children. We also had an opportunity to pray with the family.
This was a great outreach, but it is not enough to do these kinds of outreaches once a year during Christmas as many churches and individuals do because it is the season to give. Thankfully, the members of the church are thankful for the blessings that God provides and willing to give above other offerings to assist the church in giving to others. This is a part of fullfilling NPBC's 2011 mission statement: “We are brothers and sisters, ministering to brothers and sisters and our mission is to make life better for someone else”.
