New private school conference to begin in 2014-15

The conference shuffles continues for Twin Cities area high schools as six private schools have united to form a new conference.

The six schools, who left the Tri-Metro Conference after the addition of Fridley, Columbia Heights and Holy Angels to become independents are Blake, Breck, Minnehaha Academy, Mounds Park Academy, St. Paul Academy and Providence Academy.

The new conference will be called the Independent Metro Alliance Athletic Conference.

This season, the Tri-Metro Conference had 13 schools. But when the conference would expand the following season to 16 schools, Blake and Breck as well as the other four private schools would jump ship, citing scheduling concerns.

A new conference would be a great fit for these private schools, who have had success in athletics this season. Blake and Breck would continue their rivalry in hockey and other sports and Minnehaha Academy, St. Paul Academy and Providence Academy have been successful in boys and girls basketball the last few years.

It would also cut down on lengthy road trips to conference schools. Mounds Park Academy would be the furthest school east and Providence Academy would be the furthest west.
