New poster and trailer for James Wan's 'The Conjuring'

James Wan made his name as the torture porn maestro behind the Saw movies, but I think he proved to be even more adept at psychological horror with Insidious. The film was one of 2011's biggest hits, banking nearly $100M on a paltry budget below $2M. His latest thriller, The Conjuring, sticks to the genre but with the added twist of being based on a supposedly true story.

A new teaser has been released, and it's a tense, slow burn unusual for trailers nowadays. Wan seems anxious to find a way to scare us long before we ever experience the full deal, and he's done a superb job of it with this excellently cut clip. Insidious star Patrick Wilson joins Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, a pair of paranormal investigators called in to help the Perron family who claim to be living among the dead. They encounter and confront a dark entity in what is the most horrifying case of their careers. The Perrons wrote a book about the experience, House of Darkness, House of Light: The True Story.
