New Polls: President Obama's approval up, Republicans running from the economy

Over the last few weeks the Republican party has tried to turn away from jobs and the economy and decided to focus more on social issues. Whether it's screaming about gay marriage and abortion or trying to take science away in public schools and replaced with creationism, the Republican party has shown that they no longer want to focus on the economy.

With an unemployment rate that has dropped for five straight months, private sector job growth that has picked up for 23 straight months, creating over 3 million jobs in the process, Americans see that the country is headed in the right direction. According to new polls released this week, President Obama's job approval rating has started to rise. The new Washington Post/ABC poll and the Rasmussen poll show President Obama's approval number hitting 50%, up eight points from the end of the summer. President Obama's approval number was nearly 40% as the stock market was in disarray in the summer. Fast forward to February 2012 and things are looking a bit different. Just last week the Dow Jones hit a four year high and the NASDAQ hit highs that haven't been seen since 2000, over 11 years ago.

With President Obama gaining momentum on the economy, the Republicans are changing their tune with how they are moving forward for the 2012 election. Social issues are back in a big way and the far right of the Republican party are jumping on the bandwagon. Rick Santorum has led the charge on the alleged "War on Religion" while other outside groups have put their foot on the gas with their attack on minorities, women and the LGBT community.

The United States is at a crossroads leading up the 2012 elections. While the Presidential election gets the majority of the attention, many congressional seats will be up for grabs, not just nationally, but also locally as well. As the Republican party has moved to the right of the political spectrum, pushing their religious beliefs and values on others, the rest of America needs to wake up and keep America free, not locked into one ideology.
