New polling shows that an overwhelming majority of Americans oppose boots on the ground in Iraq.

When the news broke of unrest in the Iraq, all eyes turned to the United States and its Commander in Chief, President Obama. After President Obama announced that up to 275 troops will be sent to protect the embassy in Iraq, the American people are against any further combat actions.

According to a new poll by Public Policy Polling, while 52 percent of Americans support a "major diplomatic initiative" in helping to stabilize the region, many more are questioning where it could lead. When asked whether they "support or oppose sending combat troops to Iraq?," 74 percent said no. Sixteen percent said they would be in favor of sending combat troops to Iraq, while 10 percent were unsure.

Those polled support limited intervention, as 56 percent support providing intelligence to the Iraqi government, while 30 percent oppose and 14 were unsure. As the possibility of another war becomes more clear, one thing that is certain is that the American people are war weary and tired.
