How low is the American public’s opinion of Congress? So much that many say they’d rather endure a root canal or cockroach infestation than tolerate the legislative body.
A new Public Policy Polling (PPP) survey released Tuesday finds that 9 percent of the respondents hold a favorable opinion of Congress, while 85 percent hold an unfavorable view. Respondents were also asked to evaluate Congress in terms of odious phenomena, including telemarketers, NFL replacement refs, lice, the ebola virus, and gonorrhea. Results were mixed:
Compared with telemarketers Congress finished ahead, 45 percent to 35 gonorrhea. It was also preferable to contracting gonorrhea by a 53 to 28 percent margin and ebola by a margin of 53 to 25 percent.
But 56 percent of those queried said they’d sooner put up with the NFL replacement refs and lice by 56-to-29 percent and 67-to19 percent margins respectively.
Not surprisingly in light of PPP’s liberal leanings, respondents were not asked for a comparative evaluation of Congress and President Obama.
